Blackhawks star Patrick Kane sets Team USA’s World Championship career scoring record

The Blackhawks winger eclipsed Mark Johnson’s United States career scoring record of 33 points at the World Championship with an assist on James van Riemsdyk’s goal in Wednesday’s game against Great Britain in Slovakia. Kane reached 34 points (12 goals, 22 assists) in 42 fewer games than when Johnson hit 33 points.

At last year’s tournament, Kane was the first American to be named the most valuable player of the tournament with a U.S. single-season record 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists). The 31-year-old Kane has some competition for the record from young stars with Red Wings center Dylan Larkin and Flames winger Johnny Gaudreau.
