The Blackhawks placed Lucas Carlsson in concussion protocol after he took a shot to the head in the second period Thursday, and he will not play Friday against the Red Wings in Detroit.
The rookie defenseman left at 11:40 of the second period in Chicago’s 4-3 win against the Oilers on Thursday after Kris Russell’s shot hit him in the head.
Carlsson has impressed many with his two-game game and earned a spot on Chicago’s second power-play unit before he exited the game. He has one assist in five NHL games since he was called up from the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL, where he led the team’s blue liners with 26 points (five goals, 21 assists) in 48 games.
