Blackhawks place Duncan Keith on long-term injured reserve

The Chicago Blackhawks have placed defenseman Duncan Keith on long-term injured reserve after he underwent successful surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee, the team announced Wednesday.

Keith's timetable to return is set at four to six weeks. He will have to miss 10 games and 24 days due to being placed on long-term injured reserve. The move frees up his $5.04 million salary cap hit, per General Fanager. Coach Joel Quenneville said he doesn't expect them to take advantage of it or call up another defenseman right now.
