Maxim Shalunov could be interested in signing with the Chicago Blackhawks to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season, his agent said on Thursday.
Shalunov, a 24-year-old forward, was drafted by the Blackhawks in the fourth round in 2011, and his rights have been retained by the Blackhawks while he’s played in the KHL the past three seasons.
According to an NHLPA source, Shalunov would not have to go through waivers because he’s already on the Blackhawks’ reserve list and would be eligible to play in the playoffs. Shalunov’s KHL season with Sibir Novosibirsk ended last week.
