Defenseman Adam Boqvist won’t be loaned by the Blackhawks to Sweden for the 2020 World Junior Championship, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association announced Sunday morning.
The 19-year-old Boqvist, chosen eighth overall in the 2018 NHL draft, had a goal and three assists in five games for Sweden at last year’s World Juniors in British Columbia, Canada. He has one goal and one assist in nine NHL games, and six points (one goal, five assists) in 15 AHL games during his rookie season.
The announcement comes one day after the Blackhawks decided not to loan 18-year-old center Kirby Dach to the Canadian national junior team for the tournament.
