The College Football Playoff selection committee’s initial ranking for 2017

The best teams in the FBS got the first official word Tuesday about where they stand in the eyes of the College Football Playoff selection committee.

Georgia, with an unblemished record and a win at unbeaten Notre Dame, is the No. 1 team in the initial top 25. Alabama is No. 2, Notre Dame 3 and Clemson 4. Oklahoma, which won at Ohio State on Sept. 9, is No. 5 ahead of the Buckeyes.

LSU is the only team in the top 25 to have beaten a team ranked ahead of it. The Tigers, at No. 19, are ranked five spots below Auburn, a team they beat 27-23 on Oct.
