The Art of the Interception: Ex-Bears talk about picking passes

This summer, the best Bears interceptor in training camp is wearing team-issued shorts and a T-shirt, not shoulder pads and a helmet.

At the age of 34, six years after his last NFL play, Nathan Vasher won’t be making any more interceptions. But the player they called “The Interceptor” still can help create interceptions by coaching Bears defensive backs. As an intern in the Bill Walsh Minority coaching fellowship program, Vasher mostly is working with special teams. But before and after practices, he has been spending time with the cornerbacks and safeties.

Last season, the entire Bears secondary accounted for four interceptions — four fewer than Vasher had all by himself in 2005 when he had the second-most in the NFC.
