With the Arizona Fall League and Dominican Winter League kicking off this week, the Tigers have sent more than 20 players for extended play, including Joe Jimenez, Isaac Paredes, Alfred Gutierrez and Sergio Alcantara, with others set to join as those seasons progress.
With these assignments, Detroit can dictate how much, if any, playing time each can expect to see. The team can also utilize the “List of Extreme Fatigue” as a safeguard for players who logged excessive innings during the regular season, young players on a tightly-monitored routine, and any September call-ups who played following the conclusion of the minor league regular season.
