Oldest living ex-Bear passes away

Dr. John Walter Siegal, an end who helped the Bears win three NFL championships in the 1940s, passed away early this week at his home in Harveys Lake, Pa. At 97, he was the oldest living former Bears player.

John Siegal (6) played in the Bears' 73-0 win over the Redskins in the 1940 title game.

Siegal spent his entire five-year NFL career with the Bears from 1939-43, catching 31 passes for 637 yards and six touchdowns while appearing in 43 games with 16 starts.
