Former Bears defensive lineman Steve McMichael’s private memorial service was held Thursday afternoon in Oakbrook Terrace, 22 days after he died from complications of ALS at age 67.
McMichael was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August, the result of a campaign that began when he was diagnosed with 36-month onset ALS in January 2021. By the time he was voted in by the veterans committee, McMichael could no longer stand, eat or talk.
He received the gold jacket at his home in Homer Glen on Aug. 3 surrounded by fellow Hall of Famers and Super Bowl XX winners Richard Dent, Mike Singletary, and Dan Hampton.
