Hall of Famer Steve McMichael entering hospice care

Former Bears defensive lineman Steve McMichael, who fought against the ravages of ALS long enough to see himself chosen for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is entering hospice care, a source confirmed Wednesday.

He was inducted into the Hall on Aug. 3 but was unable to attend; instead, he was presented with a gold jacket at his house in Homer Glen. His wife Misty was represented McMichael in Canton Ohio, and also at the Bears’ home opener, where she received his Hall of Fame ring.

McMichael was diagnosed with 36-month onset ALS in January 2021.
