Ex-Bears coach Lovie Smith’s son Mikal Smith arrested on sex-trafficking charge: report

Mikal Smith, the son of former Bears coach Lovie Smith, was arrested in Tempe, Ariz this week on multiple charges, including sex trafficking, according to multiple media reports.

The NBC affiliate in Phoenix, KPNX, cited court documents accusing Smith of essentially managing prostitutes. A grand jury charged him with sex trafficking, pandering, receiving earnings from a prostitute, money laundering, conspiracy and illegal control of enterprise.

Smith’s father coached the Bears from 2004 through ‘12 and the Buccaneers for two seasons after that. He has been the head coach at University of Illinois since 2016.

Mikal Smith played defensive back at the University of Arizona in the 1990s and worked as an assistant under his dad with the Bears and Buccaneers.
