Of all the things Cubs president Theo Epstein said early Friday morning in the acidic miasma of a clinching clubhouse, the truest was this:
“There’s nothing better than being the type of team and organization that can win this time of year when you play great games, not-so great games, clean games, not-clean games,” Epstein said. “Our guys are earning it.”
This isn't the best Cubs playoff team, but it might match last year's in terms of guts. The Nationals might've been the better regular season team, but they couldn't make their own luck like the Cubs did in this series.
