Behind two takeways, Bears lead Commanders at halftime

LANDOVER, Md. — The Bears spent the first half Monday night trying to put the game out of Fail Mary range — and came close. With the help of an interception and a fumble recovery, the Bears lead the Commanders 13-7 at halftime at Northwestern Stadium.

Kicker Jake Moody, who was promoted from the practice squad Monday afternoon to replace Cairo Santos, who was inactive because of a quad injury, made two field goals. One came from 47 yards, another from 48. That’s an important step for a kicker who was cut in Week 1 by the 49ers, when coach Kyle Shanahan said he lost his confidence.
