Bears release Week 1 depth chart

Veteran Tashaun Gipson and rookie Jaylon Johnson are listed as the team’s starting safety and cornerback, respectively, in the first Bears depth chart of the season.

The team released the depth chart Monday afternoon. It shows Gipson beating out fifth-year Bears player Deon Bush at perhaps the most closely contested position battle on the team. Johnson’s starting role seemed more apparent once the Bears cut Kevin Toliver and did not re-sign him to the practice squad.

Mitch Trubisky, of course, was named the starting quarterback Friday.

Every other position battle was academic during training camp.

Depth charts are hardly gospel.
