GREEN BAY, Wis. — When Bears general manager Ryan Poles predicted the NFL Draft might get “a little wild,” it turns out he was scheming to be the wild card.

The Bears drafted Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with the No. 10, shocking virtually everyone. While they had more pressing needs at offensive tackle, defensive tackle and defensive end, if they did indeed take a tight end, the favorite was Penn State’s Tyler Warren.

Loveland, 21, had 56 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns at Michigan last season.

The Bears had hoped as many players as possible that fell outside their needs to go in the top nine picks and got some help with the Panthers jumping on Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan at No.
