With the Bears sitting most of their starters Sunday in the preseason opener against the Dolphins, they tied 24-24. There is no overtime in preseason games, and it’s the Bears’ first preseason tie since it happened against the Dolphins in 1973.

Coach Ben Johnson bypassed a chance to kick a go-ahead field goal from 53 yards with 1:54 left in favor of going for it on fourth-and-three, and fourth-string quarterback Austin Reed’s pass to Jahdae Walker was short and incomplete.

The defense held up, though, and safety Alex Cook sacked Dolphins third-string quarterback Quinn Ewers on fourth-and-15 to get another shot at the Miami 41-yard line.
