The Bears re-signed safety Alex Cook Thursday morning, two days after cutting him.
In between, the entirety of the Bears defense did 40 up-downs during their first practice Wednesday, something coordinator Dennis Allen described as the “toll” they had to pay.
So when Cook practiced Thursday, he did 40 up-downs — drills in which players jog in place, fall onto their belly and get back up again.
“I kinda felt bad watching him do it by himself,” safety Kevin Byard said. “But at the same time, that’s just one of those deals — an initiation to this defense.
