Bears quarterback Caleb Williams won’t play in Sunday’s preseason opener against the Dolphins, head coach Ben Johnson said Friday morning.
“We feel very good about this plan going forward, and that’s what we’re going to do,” he said.
Johnson and his coaching staff debated whether or not to play the Bears’ starters on Wednesday. They decided not to.
Johnson said he entered training camp wanting to put more emphasis on joint practices, where he could control certain scenarios — including how often Williams got hit — than in games.
