Bears morning report: Left tackle competitions adds a new contender

The Bears’ practice Thursday will provide another chance for the team to figure out exactly who they want to start at left tackle.

The three-man starting left tackle competition took on a fourth player Wednesday when Theo Benedet rotated with veteran Braxton Jones. Rookie Ozzy Trapilo, meanwhile, played second-string right tackle behind Darnell Wright.

Trapilo, who played half the team’s snaps at left tackle on Sunday, hasn’t been eliminated from the running. Rather, offensive line coach Dan Roushar said before practice the Bears wanted to get Trapilo some work at right tackle.

Benedet, an undrafted free agent from Canada a year ago, is probably best-known for singing “God Bless the USA” in a Speedo on “Hard Knocks” last year.
