The Bears found a running back, finally, taking Rutgers’ Kyle Monangai with their seventh-round draft pick Saturday afternoon.
He spent five years at Rutgers, getting a waiver after the COVID-shortened 2020 season, and the last three seasons as their starting running back. He ran for a career-high 1,279 yards last year on 256 carries. The year before, he had 1,262 yards on 242 rushes.
At 5-8, 211 pounds, the sawed-off rusher was a workhorse in college, totaling 669 carries for 3,221 yards and a whopping 27 touchdowns. He won’t get a chance to get that kind of workload with the Bears, who boast D’Andre Swift as the starter and Roschon Johnson as the backup.
