Bears coach Ben Johnson has sensed it before, in the early minutes of certain training camp practices over the past month.
He felt it Friday night, too — the sinking feeling that the Bears were about to start off slow. They did just that, with their starters running nine plays for a total of 22 yards in the first quarter against the Chiefs. Quarterback Caleb Williams fumbled on one play, was sacked on another and completed 3-of-4 passes for 41 yards over the Bears’ two possessions.
By the time the Bears kicked a field goal, they were down 17-0.
