Bears avoid embarrassment, get past lowly Saints 26-14 as defense gets 4 takeaways

One of the basic and necessary steps the Bears must take in their quest to become a legitimately good team is to establish a baseline. There need to be some minimum standards for a franchise that seemingly hasn’t had any in a while.

They avoided embarrassment Sunday by beating the aimless Saints 26-14 at Soldier Field, and that’s about it. It was sloppy throughout and got dicey in the third quarter, but at least they didn’t blow it at home against one of the worst teams in the NFL.

For years, they’ve been liable to lose to just about anybody, evidenced by the fact that they’d lost eight in a row to the Saints dating back to 2011.
