Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has surgery on ruptured ACL injury which could keep him out for the whole season

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has undergone surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the LaLiga club said on Thursday.

The 31-year-old left the training pitch in tears a week ago when an MRI scan confirmed the ACL tear.

He was operated on by Dr Manuel Leyes, under the supervision of the Real Madrid medical team.

Real added in a statement: 'Courtois will begin his recovery process in the coming days.'

Courtois, who is the undisputed No 1 at the Bernabeu when fully fit, is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 season.
