Mikel Arteta spoke of the benefits of getting his Arsenal business done early in light of the hysteria surrounding rivals Tottenham and Chelsea.

Spurs have been involved in a protracted saga with Bayern Munich over Harry Kane, while Chelsea have been ferociously battling Liverpool for Moises Caicedo’s signature.

The Gunners wrapped up the signings of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz before their pre-season tour of the US, with David Raya’s signature expected imminently.

Arteta said: ‘I think it definitely helps (for signings to play pre-season), especially for the player and getting to the environment and getting set.
