With Mason Mount taking the storied No 7 shirt at Manchester United, he becomes the latest in a long line of players to have worn the hallowed jersey number.

An incredibly long line, in fact. Though official and persistent squad numbers were only introduced in the 1993/94 season, by our count, a grand total of 68 men have taken on the No 7 mantle in some form, going right back to 1948/49.

Some of United's greatest players have graced the number and bestowed it with unique meaning and pressure.
