Damien Duff has revealed he came close to signing for Liverpool “two or three times” prior to his Chelsea transfer in 2003.
The 38-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge from Blackburn shortly after Roman Abramovich bought the club because the Blues were ready to pay the £17m Rovers wanted and the Reds weren’t.
“I would have gone there, but Blackburn wanted a big fee so not too many clubs could afford to buy me back then,” he told Four Four Two.
Liverpool’s interest didn’t end there because Duff, now retired, said the move nearly happened again when he left London in 2006.
