Jake Wightman puts Commonwealth Games frustrations behind him to produce a stunning Diamond League win in the 1,000m... with the Brit setting a world leading time in Monaco

Jake Wightman bounced back from disappointment at the Commonwealth Games by winning the 1,000m at the Diamond League in Monaco with a new world lead time.

The 28-year-old, who became 1,500m world champion in Eugene last month, had to settle for bronze in Birmingham on Saturday, ending hopes of a summer hat-trick.

But Wightman showed what he is capable of in Monaco with a run of 2:13.88 - the ninth fastest of all time and a meeting record - to pip Canada's Marco Arop.
