Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes his former club have made a mistake by allowing top target Timo Werner to join Chelsea this summer.
The RB Leipzig striker had been expected to move to Anfield after holding talks with Jurgen Klopp, but the Reds were unwilling to meet his £53million clause.
That allowed Chelsea to swoop in and earlier this month they agreed a five-year contract worth £180,000 a week with the Germany international.

But while some pundits have defended Liverpool's decision to pull out a deal, Thompson thinks the Premier League leaders could regret not strengthening.
