FA gives green light to a celebration of the Windrush community's contribution to English sport... with some of the country's most prominent black sporting figures, including Marcus Rashford and Ian Wright set to be invited to the event

The Football Association has given the green light to a star-studded celebration of the Windrush community’s contribution to English sport later this month.

Some of this country's most prominent black sporting figures, including current England internationals Marcus Rashford, Tyrone Mings, Raheem Sterling and Nikita Parris, will be invited to the historic event at Wembley on June 22 - which marks the 75th anniversary of the original Windrush generation’s arrival in Great Britain.

The FA have been in detailed talks with regards to the plans for several weeks and chair Debbie Hewitt, it is understood, is fully behind the A-list event, inspired by former Chelsea defender Paul Elliott, himself a Windrush descendant.
