Ashley Cole watched Chelsea train in Yokohama but Frank Lampard has confirmed there is no immediate prospect of him joining the coaching staff.
Cole, who played for Lampard at Derby last season, is in Japan as part of his ambassadorial and commercial duties with his former club.
At 38, he has also been studying for his coaching qualifications with the help of Chelsea at their training ground in Surrey.
Lampard, however, insists he is satisfied with the make-up and balance of his backroom team at Stamford Bridge.
