Fans have joked that Chelsea are preparing for next season after the Champions League anthem failed to play ahead of their quarter-final second leg tie with Real Madrid.
The players lined up ahead of kick-off, though the customary Champions League anthem, an adaptation of Handel's Zadok the Priest from the Coronation Anthems, failed to ring out.
The likes of Kai Havertz, Luka Modric and Thiago Silva stood there with a look of bemusement etched across their face as the BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher joked that someone inside the ground had failed to turn the speakers on.
