AC Milan step up pursuit of Fikayo Tomori as Serie A leaders discuss loan deal with £27m option to buy for Chelsea defender despite Frank Lampard insisting his long-term future remains at Stamford Bridge

AC Milan are stepping up talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for Fikayo Tomori.

The Italians had been hoping to sign Strasbourg's Mohamed Simakan but the 20-year-old is leaning towards a move to Red Bull Leipzig where he is viewed as a potential replacement for Dayot Upamecano who is being considered by Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich for a summer transfer.

Tomori, 23, had interest from Newcastle United among others in England plus clubs in La Liga but is keen on a move to Italy and Chelsea see it as a good move for his development.
