Why Michael Jordan hired Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson over Mike D’Antoni as next Hornets head coach

It seems Michael Jordan has found his man.

The Hornets are hiring Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson as their new head coach, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday.

Atkinson is best known for his four-year stint as head coach of the Nets. Brooklyn made the NBA playoffs just once during his tenure, but young players like Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert flourished, eventually becoming pivotal pieces of the trade that brought James Harden to Brooklyn.

After being fired by the Nets in 2020, Atkinson joined Tyronn Lue's staff with the Clippers.
