The Charlotte Hornets currently sit in the 8th position in the lottery with their 23-42 record. If no games are played before the draft, the Hornets would have a 6% chance to earn the first pick of the draft.
This may not seem like a high chance, but keep in mind, the New Orleans Pelicans were given the first pick in 2019 with the same odds.
The NBA changed the lottery odds before the 2019 draft to prevent tanking, giving the three teams with the worst records only a 14% chance each to earn the pick.
