July 28, 2005 - Former Charlotte 49ers standout forward Curtis Withers was named to the United States U21 World Championship Team. In the summer of 2004, Withers started for the World Championship Qualifying team which won the gold medal at the Tournament of the Americas in Halifax, Canada.
Joining Withers on the U21 World Championship Team were future NBA players Glen Davis, Rudy Gay, JJ Redick and Rajon Rondo.
In the tune-up games leading into the 2005 World Championships, Withers was named to the All-Tournament team at the Global Games after helping lead Team USA to the gold medal.
