This Day in 49ers History: June 10, 1999

As year three of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) tipped off its summer schedule, Charlotte 49ers fans were watching intently as one of their own wore a uniform in the top women's professional league in the country.

Markita Aldridge, who concluded her Niners career in 1996, was making her debut with the Washington Mystics. After graduation, she initially spent time in the American Basketball League with the Portland Power, Richmond Rage and Columbus Quest. But that league folded in 1998, leaving her without a place to play.
