Sweep over Appalachian State Earns Charlotte 4/9 Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On the day the university celebrates its 4/9 legacy, the Charlotte women's tennis team rolled past visiting Appalachian State with a 4-0 victory Friday afternoon at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

The 49ers were challenged right from the start as the Mountaineers pushed two doubles contests into tiebreakers after the Niners locked up the initial triumph on court No. 3 when sophomores Maddie Brown and Margaux Maquet handed Virginia Poggi and Peri Tippins a 6-1 setback.

The No. 1 tandem of sophomores Kaavya Sawhney and Ruxi Schech battled back from an early deficit before mounting another rally in the tiebreaker to defeat Ksenia Aleshina and María José Zacarias 7-6 (4) to seal the 1-0 advantage.
