Matt Johnson was on the front page of the Charlotte Observer's coverage of Charlotte's first-ever signing class. Johnson was a QB, local, and likely to become an important key to the upstart program.
And the kid didn't disappoint.
Over the first two seasons, Johnson threw for over 4500 yards. He led the 49ers to 10 victories. He threw a 47-yard TD pass to Trent Bostick in the inaugural game, a 48-yarder to Dmarjai Devine in the come-from-behind win over top 25 FCS foe Gardner-Webb and a 53-yarder to Mikel Hunter in a road win at Presbyterian.
