CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It felt like a heavyweight bout at times with two of Conference USA's best going toe-to-toe for 45 minutes. In the end, Charlotte women's basketball was left standing by stepping up defensively to knock off preseason league favorite WKU, 89-85, in overtime Thursday on Education Day in front of 4,518 inside Halton Arena.
The victory extends the 49ers' win streak to eight-in-a-row, longest currently in Conference USA, and keeps the program unbeaten with a 6-0 record inside Halton Arena this season. Charlotte (11-3, 3-0 C-USA) has won its last nine home games against league opponents, dating back to last year.
