HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Timely hitting by the offense and a gem of an outing by junior Haley Wiseman pushed 6th-seeded Charlotte Softball past 7th-seeded North Texas with a 4-2 victory in the first round of the 2017 Conference USA Tournament at the USM Softball Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
Despite an almost three-hour delay to first pitch after the tournament's first game went deep into extra innings, the 49ers won their first game in the C-USA Tournament since 2001 when they, playing as an eight-seed, topped five-seed Houston, 9-6. Charlotte will return to the field later in the evening to take on 3rd-seeded Louisiana Tech following the conclusion of WKU and FAU.
