CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte's duo of Bryce McGowan and Patrick Szczypinski combined on a five-hit shutout as the 49ers blanked UMBC 4-0 in Friday's series-opener. McGowan tossed a career high 6.2 innings in the victory while Szczypinski went the final 2.1 innings.
"What a fantastic start by Bryce McGowan and then to follow it up with Patrick Szczypinski," remarked Head Coach Robert Woodard. "Those two guys were really fun to watch. They got after it, had all their pitches working, pounded the strike zone and went right after the hitters.
