CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Former track and field All-American and Conference USA Athlete of the Year Cassie Slade (Ficken) will have her jersey retired in a ceremony on Friday evening, before being recognized during halftime of the Charlotte 49ers homecoming football game against UAB on Saturday, Oct. 18th.
She will become the sixth former cross-country/track & field student-athlete to have her jersey retired.
Ficken epitomized the role of a student-athlete, graduating cum laude with both a bachelor's and master's degree in civil engineering, while earning numerous honors for her athletic accomplishments.
With her seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meters at the 20005 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, she became the school's first-ever indoor NCAA All-American in a distance event.
