DYK: Academics Parallels Athletic Success for 49ers

A long-standing hallmark of the Charlotte 49ers athletic department has not only been its success on the fields or courts but also in the classroom. Since 1985, a total of 51 student-athletes, covering 10 different sports, have been recognized for their book smarts as part of the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-American® program.

Among the list of honorees, which only become eligible in their sophomore year, are the first three-time selection in women’s soccer’s Lindsey Beam-Ozimek, including in 2006 when she joined two of her teammates among the three teams, women's track & field's Sharonda Johnson, men’s track & field’s Darius Law closing his career with back-to-back first-team accolades and recent three-time selections featuring men’s soccer’s Callum Montgomery and softball’s Haley Pace, who also was a two-time first-team choice at the end of her career.
