Charlotte 49ers freshman safety Ben DeLuca (Orlando, Fla.) has been named to the Pro Football Focus (PFF) Freshman all-America team.
DeLuca, a Conference USA all-Freshman Team selection, finished third in the team with 68 tackles to set a school record for true freshmen. He played in all 12 games with eight starts and shared team-high high honors with three takeaways.
He returned a fumble 59 yards for a touchdown in the 49ers first win of the season over Elon and added interceptions in back-to-back C-USA games vs. Florida Atlantic and FIU.
He also forced a fumble at the goal line to help ensure the 49ers road win at Marshall.
