NORFOLK, Va. - The Charlotte men's soccer team is one win away from capturing its first Conference USA Championship in four years, after a 3-1 victory over the previously unbeaten and ranked eighth in the nation FIU Panthers (11-1-4). It would be the seventh conference championship in program history.
Joe Brito broke the tie with 14 minutes remaining in regulation, giving Charlotte (8-4-6) the first lead of the match. He beat his defender to the far post and hammered a header past the goalkeeper. Dean Rutherford entered the 18-yard box with pace before gathering himself and chipped a beautiful cross towards the post.
