The Charlotte 49ers (20-15) lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks (25-9) by a score of 13-2 in five innings on Wednesday, March 30.
Sophomore Bailey Rhoney mustered the only two hits for the 49ers in the game, although a few walks in the fifth inning helped bring in Charlotte’s two runs.
Charlotte kept it scoreless through two innings, but then RBI singles by South Carolina in the third inning made it 3-0. The fourth inning was the big blow against Charlotte, facing 13 Gamecock hitters and allowing a total of 10 runs in the inning. Strong pitching from the Gamecocks’ Jessica Elliot kept the 49ers off the board through the first four innings, only allowing three Charlotte baserunners in total.
