The Charlotte 49ers women’s soccer team traveled a couple hours across the state Sunday afternoon to take on the No. 9 ranked Tar Heels of North Carolina, falling 3-0 after two late goals from UNC, bringing Charlotte to an overall record of 1-1.

The Tar Heels (2-0, 0-0 ACC) found early success in the game, going up 1-0 in the sixth minute when Annie Kingman spotted a cutting Hanna Gardner. Gardner put the perfectly placed pass right to the back of the net past Anna Shelden of the 49ers.

Coming off of a 5-1 performance over the Western Carolina Catamounts, out-shooting WCU 30-to-4, the 49ers only had six shots all afternoon at Fetzer Field, four of those coming from junior Martha Thomas.
