Charlotte drops road match to nationally-ranked Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Charlotte played more aggressively in the second half but the game was decided during the opening 45 minutes, as the 49ers fell 3-0 Monday evening at No. 22 South Carolina at Stone Soccer Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina. It marked the second nationally-ranked foe on the non-conference slate for the Niners, who were also playing in front of the second largest crowd, home or away, in program history.

The Gamecocks jumped out in front 1-0 at 10:41 when leading scorer Savannah McCaskill slipped a low shot beneath Anna Shelden. McCaskill was on the receiving end of a Kaleigh Kurtz pass forward before continuing the push ahead, getting past a pair of 49ers defenders before firing her attempt into the back of the net.
