Thanks to a shared love for the 49ers, generous university supporters Gene and Vickie Johnson have established The Boyd F. Cauble Men's Basketball Student-Athlete Scholarship. Cauble, a longtime fan and supporter of 49ers athletics, passed away in June at the age of 72.
"This is another example of Gene & Vickie's commitment to the Charlotte 49ers athletic program and a wonderful tribute to Boyd that will have a lasting impact on our men's basketball program," said 49ers Athletic Director Mike Hill.
"Vickie and I have known Boyd Cauble since the days of the Grubstake Club and have never known him to have anything but a smile on his face and a warm, heartfelt greeting to everyone he came in contact with," said Gene Johnson.
